MINUTES OF LAST MEETING
President Alan welcomed members and asked for the AGM to be reopened. A motion that the President Elect for 2019/2020 be Sheryl Gregory was passed with acclaim.
The President noted the following:
- congratulations to those members who helped with the Christmas Tree project.
- District Conference to be held 22-24 March.
- The Board had approved $1,000 to help improve membership.
- RYPEN event due in May cancelled.
- Club due to run the bar at USC at the Rotary Scholarships meeting.
Michael G said that we were looking to arrange a PR opening of the River School garden shed.
Lionel T asked for volunteers for clearing vegetation at the Pioneer Park site in the Precinct.
Rick V reported there was a plan to replace the Mary Cairncross Park benches which were in poor condition with low maintenance versions. This could be a good project for our 60th year in memory of the work carried out by our founder members.
The Sergeant then lowered the tone whilst raising some revenue.
Greg W introduced Melinda Martin to speak on My Life Part 2. Melinda said that after leaving school she trained as a nurse in Queensland and worked in intensive care. On retiring from nursing, she joined QML in Public Relations before moving to work for a pharmaceutical company, quickly rising to managerial level. She later changed companies, again achieving a high level of success and winning many awards.
In 2016, she started a completely new career when she purchased Ray White in Maleny. Since then she has made her mark locally with her negotiating skills. She spoke of her passion for customer service and the enjoyment she gets from her work.
Peter MCG gave the vote of thanks.

AND NOW FOR SOMETHING DIFFERENT
HAVING DEALT WITH TAXATION, LET US LOOK AT ANOTHER HOT TOPIC
FROM A NEWSPAPER REPORT
"The Arctic Ocean is warming up, icebergs are growing scarcer and in some places the seals are finding the water too hot, according to a report to the Commerce Department yesterday from the Consulate at Bergen, Norway.
Reports from fishermen, seal hunters and explorers all point to a radical change in climate conditions and hitherto unheard of temperatures in the Arctic zone.
Exploration expeditions report that scarcely any ice has been met as far north as 81 degrees 29 minutes. Soundings to a depth of 3,100 meters showed the gulf stream still very warm.
Great masses of ice have been replaced by moraines of earth and stones, the report continued, while at many points well known glaciers have entirely disappeared.
Very few seals and no white fish are found in the eastern Arctic, while vast shoals of herring and smelts which have never before ventured so far north, are being encountered in the old seal fishing grounds.
Within a few years it is predicted that due to the ice melt the sea will rise and make most coastal cities uninhabitable."
I must apologize.
I neglected to mention that this report was from November 2, 1922 as reported by the AP and published in The Washington Post 97 years ago. This must presumably have been caused by Model T Ford emissions or ?????
