PRESIDENT'S NOTES
a) Brian Allen - Its fantastic news to hear that Brian is on the mend after his recent quad bike accident. As Bernice and Gillian have shared, many thanks to our Emergency Services, and hospital staff at SCUH. We all wish Brian a speedy recovery, but as Brian is likely to be “a bit” sore for some time yet, I encourage members to visit Brian in Room 3, Ward 4B at SCUH or you may call him on his Room phone via the Ward.
(b) At our meeting at The Maleny Hotel on 3rd March under Qld COVID-19 Regulations Rick Paget, the recently appointed Community Coordinator & Development Worker at the Maleny Neighbourhood Centre, is our guest speaker and I look forward to his insight to various changes and developments at the MNC. I am also very much looking forward to the induction of Des Crane and his welcome into our Rotary family.
(c) Our Calendar - We are well into the 3rd quarter of the Rotary Year and although we achieved some fantastic outcomes during February, our calendar for March through to June is looking very busy:

This is the last District 9600 Conference. Ever. You won't want to miss this. Registrations Close: 18th March.  Accommodation: Am assured by the DG Neil Black that there is heaps of accommodation available. The conference has been well organised, has several great speakers and a rural Qld town very keen to show off the best of good old country hospitality.
I encourage as many members as possible to join Bernice and John McL, Paulette S, Craig S and myself for a fun weekend with some serious networking, education and an opportunity to exchange ideas. I will be distributing raffle tickets to be drawn at the conference at our next meeting. The prizes are out of this world including a motor vehicle.

(f) And many thanks to Rick V for giving a well received presentation on behalf of our Club at the MDSRC AGM offering the benefit of our wisdom and experiences for compliance with COVID 19 requirements and condition, so that numerous other Maleny Clubs and organisations may hold planned events during 2021 and beyond. Another fantastic opportunity for our Club to make even more local connections during this year. Be prepared to give Rick a hand if you get a call or tap on the shoulder.

"Its not my year, its our year”.

MINUTES OF MEETING OF 17TH MARCH
What a privilege to have been present at the Rotary Meeting last week on the 17 February – a rare opportunity to welcome the members of the Glasshouse MountaIns Rotary Club to make it a joint meeting; and the presence of Tony Long the incoming Assistant Governor responsible for the new Rotary District 9620 Cluster, which must be one of the largest in our region, representing not only the Glasshouse and Maleny clubs but the clubs in Caloundra and Sunshine Coast and every club in Papua New Guinea. Tony spoke about the upcoming PETS Zoom program in April; the upcoming 13 day RYDA program starting on 6 May when 2300 students were anticipated to attend a program which would include road rider and driver training safety. Members were urged to contact Fran Tickle if there were any Maleny students intending to attend the Interact Conference.

Additionally, a special welcome and congratulations were conveyed to a lovely couple from Glasshouse Rotary who had decided just that day to marry. A beautiful engagement ring that Peter purchased at the Maleny jewellers confirmed the happy announcement.

Other important issues reported included:
1. The huge success of the solar buddies program at the RSL where young students prepared kits each of which had to be accompanied with a handwritten message from the student who put together the kit.
2. Rick Vickers reported the intention of the Club to offer guidance and assistance to The Showgrounds management and other clubs to help them follow the rules required to avoid the spread of the virus at events, especially eating areas. The Club had a significant amount of knowledge having organised events which had been planned and delivered in accordance with Covid19 rules and requirements for tracking any outbreaks of the virus and how to assure very high standards of hygiene in eating areas.
3. Chris Brooker reported that Anzac Day would proceed as normal.
4. Craig and Paulette were working hard to finalise the Club's new website and it was noted that Paulette’s damage to her leg was clearly healing well as she had been able to abandon the crutch.
5. Lionel and Jeff (the 2 gardening gurus) were thanked by the President for completing gardening requirements on the Precinct.
6. For some reason the age of the Presidents laptop was raised with a reminder that the new replacement was still at Concept IT.

The usual fines session inflicted on members included a reverse fine by Roly who fined Chris Brooker for some peccadillo.

Our special keynote speaker was Sam Hughes (who only completed High School 3 months ago) and left us in awe of his imminent planned departure (on 15 March) to journey around Australia on a tractor towing a 7 m trailer loaded with of all things – a redundant flying Doctor plane- demonstrating his plan to follow the REDEX route north to Longreach, Darwin, and across the Nullarbor raising funds for flying doctor centres. He anticipated being en route for up to 12 months. His current sponsors included Rotary (Maleny President donated a cheque), Akubra hats, and his fuel requirements from the local Liberty Station.
