MINUTES OF MEETING OF 21st AUGUST

A small but select group attended the bi-monthly dinner meeting at the Maleny Hotel with guest speaker Colin Beard.

After the opening formalities, there were brief reports from Karen looking for attendance numbers at Andy Schouteten's dinner next Wednesday and Chris with an update on the Maleny 'Real Food Festival' parking.

After the meal Sergeant Paul hit us with a collection of extravagant and generally untrue accusations in order to gain a few 'shekels' for the Club. The fines led Chris B into an amusing tale from the Cooktown RSL about a wooden replica machine gun that required a weapons licence, and a Leopard tank that didn't!! Heads & tails was won by Karen.

Malcolm introduced the guest speaker. Colin Beard is one of Australia's foremost photographers and gave us a wonderful 30 minute talk on his career accompanied by a presentation of stunning photographs. Colin's career started in 1965 with an assignment to photograph musicians The Rolling Stones and Herman & The Hermits on tour in Melbourne. This led to his being a foundation member of Australia's first rock'n roll magazine Go-Set.

Colin then moved into fashion and advertising photography, including work with Vogue, Dolly, Cleo magazines among others. He began teaching at the The Sydney College of the Arts in 1977 and still teaches locally.

Colin has produced several popular large format 'coffee table' books, including 'The Mountain Men', 'The River People', and 'Sacred Places in Australia'. In all Colin has worked in pop, fashion, movies, book publishing, and teaching. He lives locally at Mount Mellum and continues to teach, travel and work at his craft.

Anyone interested can find information and examples of Colin's work at www.colin-beard.com.

After a vote of thanks to the guest speaker and a lack of further business the meeting was closed at 8:30.

NOW FOR SOMETHING DIFFERENT

AFTER LAST WEEK"S MASCULINE PROBLEMS, SOMETHING FOR TECHNOLOGICALLY CHALLENGED FEMALES (IF ANY EXIST?)

Dear Tech Support,

Last year I upgraded from Boyfriend to Husband and noticed a distinct slowdown in overall system performance, particularly in the flower and jewellery applications, which operated flawlessly under Boyfriend.

In addition, Husband uninstalled many other valuable programmes, such as Romance and Personal Attention and then installed undesirable programs such as Cricket, Football, Golfing and Continuous TV. Conversation no longer runs, and Housecleaning simply crashes the system. I've tried running Nagging to fix these problems, but to no avail.

What can I do?
Signed, Desperate

......................................................................................................

Dear Desperate,

First keep in mind, Boyfriend is an Entertainment Package, while Husband is an Operating System.

Please enter the command: 'http: I Thought You Loved Me.html' and try to download Tears.

Don't forget to install the Guilt update. If that application works as designed, Husband should then automatically run the applications Jewellery and Flowers, but remember over-use of the above application can cause Husband to default to Grumpy Silence, Garden Shed or Beer.

Beer is a very bad program that will download the Snoring Loudly Beta.

Whatever you do, DO NOT install Mother-in-law (it runs a virus in the background that will eventually seize control of all your system resources). Also, do not attempt to reinstall the Boyfriend program.  These are unsupported applications and will crash Husband.

In summary, Husband is a great system, but it does have limited memory and cannot learn new applications quickly. It also tends to work better running one task at a time.

You might consider buying additional software to improve memory and performance. We recommend Food and Hot Lingerie.

Good Luck,
Tech Support
