MEETING OF 18TH JULY
President Alan opened the meeting with a general welcome to members with a special welcome to our guest speaker the Support Services Manager for the Blackall Range Care Group Fiona Hawkins. We also welcomed a prospective member Paulette Steele.
Jim A gave the Loyal Toast and David Fraser the Rotary Grace.
President Alan informed the meeting of the following:
“Next week’s meeting will be a Club Assembly at 5:30pm in the Masonic Hall. I want to take the opportunity for all of us to review our Club for the activities we will undertake in the next 12 months. The tool we will use is Rotary Club Health Check booklet. This booklet has a series of simple questions it asks under the following topics:-
1.Your Club Experience
2.Service and Socials
3.Image
4.Business and Operations.
There is also a list of Prognoses which we can all talk about. It is also important that we think about our 2019-20 Executive Team especially President, Secretary and Treasurer”
President Alan also mentioned that next year is the 60th anniversary of the Rotary Club of Maleny and he would like a couple of volunteers to plan suitable celebratory events, i.e. a party!
Jim A advised that the next half yearly dues will be kept at $140 and that invoices will be issued soon.
Bernice advised of a charity bike ride on 6th October raising funds for Care Flight. Volunteers are attempting to ride up/down the Razorback 23 times – Club members are encouraged to volunteer!! Bernice also confirmed arrangements for our support of the Sunshine Coast Velothon on Friday 20th July.
The Sergeant then dreamt up a few outrageous fines on members.
Following a brief interlude for coffee/tea the President introduced Fiona Hawkins from the Blackall Range Care Group. Fiona gave a very informative presentation backed up with PowerPoint slides. The presentation has been sent as an email attachment to all members.

POTENTIAL TRAPS FOR THE UPWARDLY MOBILE
THE LAWYER
Joe grew up in a small town in outback Queensland, then moved to Brisbane to attend law school. He decided to come back to the country town because he felt he could be a big shot at home. He really wanted to impress everyone, so he returned and opened his new law office. The first day he saw a man coming up the sidewalk.
He decided to make a big impression on this new client when he arrived.
As the man came to the door, Joe picked up the phone.
He motioned the man in, all the while talking on the phone. "No. Absolutely not! You tell those clowns in Sydney that we won't settle this case for less than one million. Yes, the Court of Appeal has agreed to hear that case next week. I'll be handling the primary arguments and the other members of my team will provide support.
Okay, tell the Attorney General that I'll meet with him next week to discuss the details."
The 'conversation' went on for almost five minutes. All the while the man sat patiently as Joe rattled instructions. Finally, Joe put down the phone and turned to the man,
"I'm sorry for the delay but as you can see, I'm very busy. What can I do for you?"
The man replied, "I'm from Telstra, and I came to hook up your phone."
