MEETING OF 19TH DECEMBER
President Alan welcomed our speaker Carolyn Wiiliams, members and partners and intended new member Peter Russell.  He then took the opportunity to share the results of the AGM held the previous week and congratulated Jim Atkinson Treasurer, Bernice Secretary, and Michael Gregory as Vice President and announced the following Directors of the Board: CL Claridge,  Angela Griffin, Greg Williams, Rick Vickers and Paulette Steele.

He reminded the Club that a Club President Elect still needed to be elected and he expressed his hope that a female member would nominate for that role.
Other announcements:
- Board meeting next week
- Christmas Party on 19 December
- Xmas Tree Festival decoration of Rotary Tree by 17 December; volunteers needed to help to Greg
- Maleny Singers Carol Concert at RSL on 14 December
- Christmas Street Festival on 14 December; volunteers to Jim Atkinson
- Australia Day Expo on 26 January 2019; Spatap Project to be focus of Rotary exhibit
- Bernice and John offered to present the SES annual awards
- First dinner meeting of Club in 2019 to be 16 January
- The prospect of a social event at Andy Schouteten’s home would be followed up by the President

Chris Brooker reported that he would be checking the contents of the shed at the State School since he had heard they were having a clear out.  He would check if there might be anything useful for Donations in Kind (DIK).

The Sergeant had fun at the literal expense ($) of Sherryl and Michael G, Ric T, Roly, Jim and Jeff, Keith (who then cross fined the Sergeant), Paulette, CL and Angela.

Rick announced that he was now the proud owner of 4 more baby guinea fowl though he seemed not that chuffed.

Carolyn Williams, a local Maleny lawyer who specialised in Estate Planning, was guest speaker and held Club members and partners riveted with advice and details of risks that could occur if there was inadequate or confusing estate planning. She stressed the importance of making sure that Wills, Enduring Powers of Attorney and appointments of executors were up to date - correctly and clearly setting out a person’s wishes prior to their death thus avoiding the risk of inadequate or confusing documentation that might result in disagreements within families or between executors.

Her very detailed and specialist knowledge was obvious during the talk and in her answers to questions. Her lasting message was to urge members to review their documents regularly with a professional who had a detailed knowledge of the law to ensure the documents were up to date and still applicable.

Angela gave the vote of thanks.

AND NOW FOR SOMETHING DIFFERENT
A WHIMSICAL BRITISH REACTION TO A FOOD SCANDAL
(THEY NEED SOMETHING TO TAKE THE MIND OFF BREXIT)

In the UK, some supermarkets have admitted that there is horse meat in their home cooked burgers.

Tesco is a big supermarket chain in the UK

Within hours of the news that Tesco's 'all beef  hamburgers' contained 30% horse meat, these quips hit the Internet.

"I'm so hungry, I could eat a horse..... I  guess Tesco just listened!

Anyone want a burger from Tesco? Yay or neigh?

Not entirely sure how Tesco are going to get over this hurdle.

Waitress in Tesco asked if I wanted anything on my Burger. So I had £5 each way!

Had some burgers from Tesco for my tea last night ...I still have a bit between my teeth.

A woman has been taken into hospital after eating horse meat burgers from Tesco. Her condition is said to be stable.

"I've just checked the Tesco burgers in my freezer ... "AND THEY'RE OFF!"

Tesco now forced to deny the presence of zebra in burgers, as shoppers confuse barcodes for serving suggestions.

Said to the missus, "These Tesco burgers give me the trots...

"To beef or not to beef, that is equestrian".....

I hear the smaller version of those Tesco burgers make great horse d'oeuvres.

Instead of choosing "rare, medium or well done, it's now Win, Place or Show".

These Tesco burger jokes are going on a bit...Talk about flogging a dead horse.
