MEETING OF 7TH NOVEMBER
President Alan welcomed all and special mention to our guest speaker Noreen Harris from MNC and a visiting prospective member James McCormack.  He then provided a good summary of the duties of Duty Officer and Assistant Duty Officer for future reference. He then mentioned upcoming events:

8 Dec – SES Presentation of annual awards. Request a Rotarian to present our award.

14 Dec – Christmas Street Carnival. More details to come.

19 Dec- Christmas Party at the RSL. More details to come. Advise Bernice if you are coming.

Chris B gave a summary of the recent achievements of the Navy Cadets from TS Centaur.  He then gave a summary of the Re-enactment Parade on 11 Nov: 225 people in the parade, 20 different organisations participated, 17 families, plus 90 school children from the local schools. The costumes were authentic and many of the flags came from museums, collections and individual families etc. A great event by the community for the community.  Post the meeting, our Federal MP has thanked Chris in the parliamentary chamber for the splendid organisation of this event.

Ric T interrupted by accusing Bill H for not being true to the re-enactment. Bill’s Dad was in the original parade but crossed  by going through the Obi Obi Creek, not cheating by going over the bridge. Bill H then took 2 minutes to explain the 30 second crossing over the bridge instead of through the creek.

Special mention of the two heroes of the parade- the pooper scoopers Phillip S and Peter McG who will be in demand in the future.

Bernice and Pres Alan went to the District AGM last Sunday to an enjoyable and informative session on many subjects.

Jeff C asked for volunteers to assist at the kiosk to sell calendars at the weekend.

Pres Alan also reminded all of the AGM at the next meeting at the Masonic Lodge (5.30 for 6 pm) and to have a serious think about nominating for any of the committee positions.

Ric T then introduced Noreen Harris from MNC. She thanked us for our continued support to the Centre. MNC is partly (50%) funded by government with the balance coming from donations. Recently income was reduced by the relocation of some service providers who used to lease some of the premises. MNC is now looking for any persons who may want to lease rooms for events, functions or business meetings.

She provided information on the various programs underway including the Maleny Young Women who meeting every fortnight to discuss issues under social workers’ supervision/ My Shared House project for women who need emergency housing but not for domestic violence cases as that is handled under a different program. MNC is looking for any spare rooms, granny flats available for short term accommodation and always looking for funding opportunities.

Noreen invited all to the Christmas Big Breakfast (last year there were 500 people) for a hot or cold
breakfast. If you want to help you can be on a 2 hour roster on the day. Rick V thanked Noreen for her presentation and the insight into the many activities MNC undertake for those less fortunate, provided her with a calendar and a world known shopping bag and a cheque from the Rotary Club to help fund her projects.

President Alan wished all safe journey home. Meeting finished on time. Well done all.
