PRESIDENT'S NOTES
What a top meeting we had last week truly bringing with it the message that the “The Hills are alive with the Sound of Music” now that The Harvey Sisters have made Maleny their home. Welcoming back Brian A to the club was a joy. Lovely to be able to thank Kim at the hotel for her friendly service throughout the year. This was tempered with the sadness of farewelling our late Rotary Colleague, friend and past District Governor, Peter Wilkinson.

The heat of the last week turned the green hills of Maleny brown but the golfers at the Legends Pro-Am Golf tournament on Saturday seemed not to be bothered by it. Thanks to the Rotary parking team, I learnt a bit about golf, including the fact that important golfing people drive big shiny black cars and don’t always follow parking directions.

Also on Saturday were the Annual SES Awards Presentations at the SES shed at the Showgrounds. Alongside the Lions and Quota representatives, I presented the Rotary Community Spirit Award to Jordan Pearce.

They presented us with a Certificate of Appreciation.

Amazingly the SES have clocked up almost 2000 hours of on-call service and training time this year. It is good to see younger members, some still at school, stepping up to join the SES team through the SES Cadet program. On Sunday Chris B and Paulette represented the club at the TS Centaur Presentation Parade. Chris presented the Helmsman of the Year Award to Cadet Petty Officer, Israel Macdonald-Parker.

Looking forward to seeing you all at our Christmas Party on Wednesday 18 December at The Orangery. Then time for a break from Rotary to celebrate Christmas and New Year. If you are looking for a unique gift for a special someone, consider giving them The Gift of Rotary.  See what that gift could buy at:

The January Rotary calendar is looking good with a social meeting at the Community Precinct on Wednesday 8 January to start the month off.

Peace and Christmas wishes to you and your families.

MINUTES OF MEETING OF 4TH DECEMBER
President Sheryl opened the meeting with a welcome to all Rotarians, with a special welcome to Brian and Gillian Allen and our guest speakers “the Harvey Sisters”.

She led us in a short remembrance of Peter Wilkinson, past member (classification Forestry) and President of the Club and a past District governor, who recent passed away.
President Elect Greg gave us a short rundown on his training workshop recently held in Toowoomba, the last one to be held for District 9600, with the impending amalgamation of districts next year.

Induction of Member: Rick Vickers led the induction of Brian Allen to the club. Brian is a returning member having been a member of Maleny Rotary for over seven years; he retired about three and a half years ago but has now indicated his desire to return. He has always been an enthusiastic and energetic member of Rotary as evidence by his Paul Harris with three sapphires.  He will again have the classification of Beef Production even though he now has only three cows!
Rick presented him with his old dinner badge and President Sheryl made a presentation to both Brian and Gillian. Roly will be Brian’s buddy for his return to the club.
Welcome back to Maleny Rotary Brian from all the club members.

Thank you to Kim: Bernice made a presentation on behalf of the club to Kim who has looked after our orders and always makes sure we are welcome at the Maleny Hotel

Guest Speakers: Jim Atkinson introduced our guest speakers Marybeth and Clementine Harvey, who together form the Harvey Sisters, a very talented musical group. They recently moved from Brisbane to North Maleny. Their parents have also relocated to the area.

Marybeth and Clementine ran a music school in Brisbane with some 120 students but after visiting Maleny some 18 months ago, they decided to move north. They write their own songs and adapt other songs to suit their style of singing. Each have qualifications in music with very strong links to the Conservatorium of Music in Brisbane, where they did their studies. Having moved, they now have some teaching contracts with schools on the Sunshine Coast and have established contacts with the SSC Conservatorium of Music. They hope to establish their own teaching school in North Maleny.

The Harvey Sisters entertained the meeting and other patrons of the Maleny Hotel with four songs; I must be Crazy; Will you love me tomorrow; Stand by me; and Deck the Halls.
