PRESIDENT'S NOTES
The club made a good display at the Aussie Day Expo last Sunday with our stall bedecked with Australian flags and Rotary information and Rotarians keen to chat to passers-by about what we do. The theme of the display was that Rotary supports emergency accommodation. Thanks to Alan who connected with the RC of Surfer’s Paradise to borrow their prototype of the ‘Sleeping Pod’ as well as a wheelchair made from bicycle parts for distribution to developing countries.
The pod is an innovative emergency accommodation solution and it created quite a bit of interest.

Thanks to Greg who borrowed some sleeping swags from the Neighbourhood Centre to complement the emergency accommodation theme. In all, it was a great team effort and an enjoyable way to spread the word about Rotary, along with all the other 60 or so organisations. Thanks to Rick V who did a great job coordinating the event.

As January had five Wednesdays a vocational visit was organised by Greg to Maleny Cheese. It was an enjoyable and informative afternoon, well attended by members and partners. Owner Sarah Bucher hosted us for the event and led us through a tasting of their speciality cheeses, followed by yoghurt tasting.

She described the history of the cheesery as well as brought us up to date on the dairies which provide their milk, including their own Obi Dairy, the varieties of cows, qualities of milk needed for the various products they produce, and how they recovered from the devastating arson attack on the premises in 2018.  She answered a myriad of questions along the way.
I was surprised to find out that yoghurt production is their main business and that their creamy yoghurts are not only winning prizes but sought after by many businesses around the coast and beyond. Her personal story of meeting husband Marcus overseas, moving to Switzerland from Townsville, and her family history, being related to William Landsborough, and much more made the visit such an informative and enjoyable experience.
Thank-you Greg for organising the visit. Many members and partners then regrouped at the Hotel for a social dinner.

Thanks to all the members who participated in the survey at the last Business meeting. I hope you all get a chance to check over the summary, outcomes and action planned from it. We wish Malcolm a speedy recovery and hope that he is back on deck again soon.

AND NOW FOR SOMETHING DIFFERENT
ALWAYS LOOK ON THE BRIGHT SIDE

 4 Worms in Church
A minister decided that a visual demonstration would add emphasis to his Sunday sermon.

Four worms were placed into four separate jars.

The first worm was put into a container of alcohol.

The second worm was put into a container of cigarette smoke.

The third worm was put into a container of chocolate syrup..

The fourth worm was put into a container of good clean soil.

At the conclusion of the sermon, the Minister reported the following results:

The first worm in alcohol . . .
Dead.

The second worm in cigarette smoke . . .. Dead.

Third worm in chocolate syrup . . . . Dead.

Fourth worm in good clean soil . . .. Alive

So the Minister asked the congregation,

"What did you learn from this demonstration?"

Maxine was sitting in the back quickly raised her hand and said . . .

"As long as you drink, smoke and eat chocolate, you won't have worms!"
Finally the winners of the recent limerick competition are below:

There was a young girl from Maleny
Who everyone thought was quite brainy
She joined up to a club
That met in a pub
And she’s now certifiably zany.

There once was a girl from the coast
Whose chest was bigger than most
She had a reduction
And liposuction
And now she could pass for a post.

There once was a bloke from Scarness
Who was ugly as sin, nothing less
He went under the knife
To find a new wife
Now everyone calls him ‘princess’.
