No challenge is too big for us.
For more than 110 years, we’ve bridged cultures and connected continents to champion peace, fight illiteracy and poverty, promote clean water and sanitation, and fight disease.

It is good every now and then to step back from the busy-ness of our own Rotary Club doings to reflect on the big picture of Rotary and why we all joined in the first place. This week was Rotary International’s 115th anniversary - quite a milestone. The above is from the Rotary International website at: https://www.rotary.org/en. If you haven’t browsed the website recently, check it out, and get that WOW! feeling that I did that we are part of such an amazing organisation.

After the horror of the domestic violence tragedy that occurred in Brisbane last week, the local Presidents of Zonta, Quota, Rotary and hopefully Lions are getting together to see if we can work together on a project to address this issue in our community. While I was on the Rotary.org website I found a report of Australian Rotary clubs raising awareness and funds to prevent domestic violence and support its victims in their communities. One Rotary President quoted said “When ending polio seemed insurmountable, Rotary stepped in. Why can’t Rotary help end domestic violence?” The report can be found on the link below:

REPORT OF BUSINESS MEETING OF 19TH FEBRUARY
Show and Tell:
Fran told us about her Pilgrimage to the Holy Land in 1994 and showed us a very meaningful candelabra which she brought home to remember the visit. The trip included visits to Greece, Turkey and Israel. Fran read out a moving inscription she saw at a Gallipoli monument, remembering both Turkish and Australian soldiers lost in that fateful campaign. Highlights of the visit to Israel were seeing Jerusalem and swimming in the Dead Sea. The candelabra depicted a music treble cleft symbol and it resonated with Fran as she loves singing and music.
Meeting Duties were clarified:
DO: Puts out banners and regalia, mats on table, helps Guest speaker set-up if necessary, introduces Guest Speaker, makes sure a member is lined up to take photographs of Guest Speaker (this last bit is a new duty for the DO).
ADO: Scribe for meeting (takes notes and sends them to Keith for Bulletin), Thanks the guest speaker (gets Bag and Calendar for gift from cupboard), Puts away banners, regalia, mats etc.
Registration: Marks attendance, including any guests, visiting Rotarians etc, collects money (& gives to Jim), makes sure everyone has ordered a meal & gives to Kim.
Fellowship: Makes visitors to meeting welcome, makes sure they are recorded on attendance sheet and order a meal, orients them to a seat etc. Makes sure President/Chairperson knows names of guests so they can be welcomed at beginning of meeting.
The Club Committee Structure was distributed for comment. All members have been attached to a committee or sub-committee. A copy will be emailed to all members.

There was a thank you to Chris B, Brian A and Jim A for helping with the Golf Club parking on Saturday. Roly N said that the official opening of an 18 hole golf course was a significant event for the town and would certainly attract many visitors. It was a credit to those who had put in so much work to reach the current goal.
He modestly failed to mention that he had burgled the B Grade competition on the day - but this had not escaped the notice of the Sergeant.
Sherryl and Greg had attended the opening of the CHASM mini-house behind the Coop.
Bernice and Greg had attended the Hospital Auxillary AGM.
Paulette is arranging a roster for a Club member to be present at the weekly Interact meeting at the High School.
Sherryl reported that the Maleny Educational Support Fund, financed by Apex, Lions and Rotary, had made donations of $7,000 anonymously to local students with financial needs. Nominations are made by school principals.
The Womens Empowerment Project in Nepal has been completed with some funds not spent. These may be allocated to a new project for which RAWCS backing will be sought.
