MEETING OF 19TH AUGUST
The guest speaker for the evening was Sabine Wienand who spoke about her involvement in the development of the wild Australian native foods industry.  Sabine, who is originally from Hamburg in Germany, said that she was introduced to Australian native foods in the early 1990’s and she was struck by its fresh and exciting flavours. Since then she has been instrumental in the development and marketing of these foods both here and overseas – including promotional tours to Germany, Denmark and Singapore.

With her knowledge of indigenous culture and native foods, she founded the firm Basically Wild creating her own range of products using new and different native foods, some grown by and purchased directly from Aboriginal communities and others coming from growers setting high standards in organic produce. What sets Australian native foods apart from other exotic foods is its different appearance and its very high nutritional value especially very high antioxidant properties.

Sabine indicated that she was recently voted to represent Queensland as a Director on the board of ANFIL, the national Native Food Industry body.  Phillip S thanked the guest speaker for giving us a glimpse into her very interesting life at the forefront in the development of the native food industry.

NOW FOR SOMETHING DIFFERENT
A CAUTIONARY MEDICAL TALE
TONSILS OUT VERSUS CIRCUMCISION

Two little boys are going to the hospital the next day for operations. They will be first on the schedule.

The older boy leans over and asks, "What are you having done?"

The second boy says, "I'm getting my tonsils out, and I'm afraid."

The first boy says, "You've got nothing to worry about. I had that done when I was four.  They put you to sleep, and when you wake up, they give you lots of Jell-O and ice cream.

It's a breeze."

The second boy then asks,
"What are you going in for?"

The first boy says, "Circumcision."

"Whoa!" the smaller boy replies.

"Good luck, mate. I had that done when I was born.

Couldn't walk for a year."
