PRESIDENT'S NOTES
It has been a very wet past few weeks in the Sunshine Coast hinterland. I hope that all members and their families have remained safe on our roads and missed every or as many potholes as possible.
Our next meeting is a General Meeting and we can look forward to a very interesting presentation from Jodie Nolan,  Manager of the Maleny branch of Queensland Country Bank, together with some fine good hearted Rotary fellowship with Jodie and our other club guests.

Maleny Agricultural Show.
The Rotary Food Stall: Undoubtedly our biggest volunteer event for the year. Massive congratulations to Roly N and all our fantastic volunteers in our Rotary Foodstall who have done an excellent job to set up, prepare, cook and speedily serve a huge range of the highest quality, lowest price, locally sourced  angus steak burgers, hamburgers, egg and bacon burgers, pumpkin soup, pea and ham soup, hot dogs, sausages in a blanket, pizzas, tea and coffee and soft drinks - as well as clean and pack up and return so many items of equipment. I have attached two photos I was able to take. Our food ensures that so many families can stay longer and enjoy the magnificent fireworks (as did our own members) held about 7pm each evening. The hill this year was packed on both nights.

The Friday Gate: Another huge thank you to Jim A and all his volunteers for their challenging efforts to overcome some early teething problems with the new entry system and to go on during the day to manage a record Friday gate takings for the Maleny Agricultural Show. (PS. I still have my orange vest and will return it at the meeting)

I also extend a huge thank you to Maleny Show Society President Winston Johnston and his tireless volunteers for making all the right decisions and ground preparations so that the Show could go on, despite several preceding weeks of torrential rain .

And for all our nature lovers, I captured the kind gesture by Sherryl and Mike G who brought their neighbour Jill Morris’s favourite kookaburra to the show for a feed. Hope he could find his way home.

PETS.
After a morning stint on the Friday Gate at Show, our President Elect Paulette S drove up to Toowoomba, where to her surprise she had her accommodation upgraded. Paulette was only a 5 minute walk to the conference location at the Toowoomba Golf Club. We can look forward to her report from the Seminar at our meeting.

Your Rotary Ticket to Good Health.
Another reminder that its time to get your Rotary Ticket to Good Health. Many thanks to John Lehane (Toowoomba) and Tony Wills (Capalaba) for joining me on the Roarty Bowelscan Qld Stand at the Show to promote bowel cancer awareness, the number 2 cancer killer in Australia together with the complimentary nature of our Test Kit program with the free Commonwealth test kit program distributed every 2 years to residents aged over 50 to 74. We sold several kits at the Show on consignment to us from our local Maleny Star Discount Chemist, where the Rotary Bowelscan Queensland test Kits are now available for purchase for $22.

MINUTES OF MEETING OF 18TH MAY
President Greg welcomed members and guest Wayne Lilley before opening the meeting with the usual formalities. There were apologies from John, Bernice, Des, Mike, Sherryl, CL, Angela, Brian and Jarrod.
Rick V reported that he had been invited to join a SC Council committee set up to consider an Ecological Park between  Coolum and Mary Cairncross Park.
Paulette S gave an update on a potential Koala Fodder plantation in Montville being considered by RC Woombye Sunrise and RC Nambour 76.
Fran spoke about her meeting with Apex to discuss the Maleny Education Support Fund; they agreed to donate $3000 per year and, if need be, will do a small mid year top up.  Well done Fran!
The rest of the meeting was mostly taken up with discussions about the Show.

Roly said that he understood that the Show was still going ahead. Bill explained the problems with the recent heavy rainfall and said the Show Society had plans to cut back on some events if the weather did not improve. Roly then outlined the areas that needed members' involvement - food stall rosters, soup preparation, a working bee to clean up the food preparation area on 25 May, another the next day to stock up the area prior to the  operations on Friday and Saturday.

Jim then explained (or at least said he had) the rather complex new arrangements controlling entry to the Show.  The kiosk we have manned in the past will no longer be used.  The Show Society will control entry at the main gate by channeling pedestrians to the road between the cattle arena and the Arts and Crafts building. Entry tickets will be checked there and arm bands issued. Only vehicles for officials, volunteers and livestock will be allowed into the Grounds.  There will be separate arrangements checking car passengers.  Jim strongly advised members to buy entry tickets on line before arriving at the Showgrounds.

Sergeant Chris make up for his recent absence in ruthless fashion.

In honour of John Wahn's recent birthday, the hotel produced a special cake, Fortunately Renee was on hand to assist John with the cutting and distribution.

Alan Wilson gave a short and humorous presentation about passing his 70th birthday and its affect on his working life - NIL!

The meeting closed at 8.30pm.
