MEETING OF 14TH APRIL
Pres Jeff welcomed all and introduced guest speaker Bryan Mason from ROMAC. Special guest also present was DGE Alan Stevenson.  Pres Jeff read some recent changes by RI to membership, e-clubs, meeting flexibility – all good news.

Chris B spoke about the upcoming events, especially the Wood Expo and the potential to raise lots of funds by all contributing to the roster.  Jeff and Chris also spoke of the special meeting for 27th April at Tranquil Park. (See item below). Partial names were gathered for the combination Youth Night / Community Grants Awards Night.

DGE Alan spoke briefly on Polio – our top priority and with only 10 cases so far in the world (2 Afghanistan/8 in Pakistan) we are on path to ridding the planet of polio. Also mentioned that Rotoract members can now be members of Rotary clubs.

Meal over Chris B fined us all AND passed around the blind raffle. Won by me and it was not rigged. Many thanks for those who contributed to my good fortune.  Chris B extracted thoughtful penalties from all. Jim A cross fine on the dangers of Meals on Wheels delivery and John W spent two minutes trying to explain his way out of a cross fine. Not many were convinced.

Lionel introduced guest speaker Bryan Mason who spoke knowledgably on ROMAC (Rotary Oceania Medical Aid for Children), its beginnings in 1988 in the Asia Pacific region.  Then 10 years ago it evolved to increase its effort to support more children needing life saving surgery. He showed us a 4 minute video about a lad from Vanuatu with deformed feet and the good news story following his rehabilitation.

ROMAC expanded to Qld in 1998 and this year marks its 400th patient. This year alone has seen 43 patients treated and it also marks the 100th patient from Timor Leste. In closing he mentioned that bed space is now the greatest challenge in bring more kids to ROMAC. He appreciated the $1000 donation from our club and is looking to developing a global grant to get more local training and local knowledge to the countries from which the children are selected.

Rick V thanked him for his thoughtful and informative speech and, by way of thanks, presented him with our History of Maleny through Rotary and our world famous (already seen in Tokyo and Miami) shopping bag.

Pres Jeff concluded with thanks our guest and guest speaker, reminding all about the sausage sizzle on 14 May and wished a safe journey home.

PRESENTATION OF ROTARY GRANTS
At an enjoyable and well run evening at Tranquil Park on 27th April, President Jeff presided and handed over grants cheques totalling $8,340 to 14 local groups - see Board minutes for details of the recipients.  There was an emphasis before the awards on the Club's involvement with youth matters with excellent speeches from a TS Centaur cadet and a member of Interact.

Chris B was as ever an entertaining MC. Hopefully there will be some photographs in this week's Glasshouse Country and Maleny News.
