MEETING OF 5TH SEPTEMBER
The meeting opened with President Alan welcoming guests Peter Russell, formerly a member of the Goondiwindi RC and now resident in Maleny, Fran Tickle, Joc Brooker & guest speaker Anthea Maas.
Chris’ card raffle extorted $2 from each of us with the winner being Alan who said he needed the money as his daughter is getting married next weekend.
Our brewing expert Keith R then enlightened us on the production of a special beer from Weinhenstephaner which is the oldest brewery in the world, founded in 1040. The beer is Weissbier mitt Hefe, which was originally produced in Bavaria in the early 1500s. This means white beer with yeast and is unusual in using over 50% of wheat and a special top fermenting yeast which produces marked fruity and estery flavours. Unfortunately the sample bottle did not get to the meeting!
After our Sergeant extracted further funds citing rather dubious misdemeanours, Jeff C then introduced our guest speaker Anthea Maas, who just happened to be Chris & Joc’s granddaughter. Anthea was sponsored by our Club to the recent RYLA camp & gave a most enlightening address on her experience. Although only of one week’s duration, from what we were told it could have been a month. Anthea cited the benefit to her self development through understanding trust, dependence on others, need to accept others’ views and the benefits of group approach to problem solving. It proved to be a most challenging week which Anthea grasped with both arms & has been spurred on to further study. Lionel gave the vote of thanks.
Members were offered the 2019 calendar (hot off the press) for only $5 and Lionel thanked those members who assisted with the ritual hanging of all the photos at Maple 3 on Monday. Before closing Pres. Alan sought an attendee for the CWA anniversary dinner & members for parking duties as the Witta Fair on 15 September.
