MEETING OF 7TH NOVEMBER
President Alan welcomed 20 members and 3 guests to the meeting. Guests for the night were Fran Tickle and mother of the Guest Speaker Helen Sharp, as well as the guest speaker for the night Brad Solomon from “Life Flight”.
Prior to the meal being served, CL played a short video production from the Maleny State School highlighting their “War on Waste”project and vegetable gardens.The students acquitted themselves very well, explaining on the video what the project entailed as well as pointing out what they purchased with the money they received from the Club’s recent “Local Grants Program”. For those who are interested there is a story in the November issue of the “Hinterland Times” about this very subject.
Chris Brooker spoke of the need for help at the upcoming Centenary re-enactment of the Peace parade held in Maleny 100 years ago to mark the end of Word War.
Chris Ross-Smith urged all members to return their raffle books before the final performance of “The Marriage of Figaro” on Sunday 11 November. Roly reminded those that hadn’t paid to attend the Gala Cocktail Party, which was being held on Friday evening prior to the commencement of the first performance of “Figaro”, to pay ASAP.
Laurelle Owen was the lucky winner of the “Lucky Numbers” and as usual Chris Brooker made up stories and fined many people as well as our guests !!!
Guest Speaker Brad Solomon spoke of his involvement as a Paramedic with the Life Flight Helicopter service. Brad explained that the service use to be called Care Flight but has recently change it’s name to Life Flight. Brad, who’s mother Helen Sharp is a long time resident of Maleny, moved to Curramore about 12 months ago.Brad joined the service over 20 years ago and was first stationed on the Gold Coast, before moving to the Sunshine Coast base.
Brad explained how the service worked and stressed that while RACQ was the major sponsor, the service needed to source around 30% of the funds required from fundraising. Brad is heavily involved in fundraising efforts and is one of the main organisers of the “Everest Challenge”, a bike ride up and down Hutchy Rd at Montville many times to replicate the distance to the top of Everest.
Greg Williams thanked the Guest speaker on behalf of the Club.
