MINUTES OF MEETING OF 7TH APRIL
President Greg opened the meeting by welcoming members and guests. Our guest speaker was Maddie Crane who was a Rotary Exchange student who recently spent a year in Switzerland. Maddie, like all exchange students had some great (fun) times, however importantly, she also had some life changing experiences.

As Maddie puts it… “My year in Switzerland, thanks to Rotary, was the most amazing and unforgettable experience. Not only was I given the opportunity to pick up German, but also to mingle with people from many cultural backgrounds from across the entire world. My maturity and sense of initiative are considerably different also. Something that I think I was really able to develop from travelling independently and being ‘thrown in the deep end’. [Read: forced to become self reliant which she actually explained in the talk :-)] Despite COVID and all the challenges it brought along, I don’t believe I was disadvantaged or “missed out” at any point whatsoever! Actually, because of it [Covid restrictions] I was able to form much stronger and memorable relationships with my host parents, siblings and Swiss friends. I cherish these chances I had to grow personally much much more than tourist attractions or countries I may have seen otherwise. Thank you Rotary for all of your support and this invaluable experience.”

Ric Townsend gave the vote of thanks.
