PRESIDENT'S NOTES
Our next meeting 18 August is a Business Meeting subject to COVID 19 restrictions. The Delta Strain is having consequential impacts on many of our planned activities and those of so many of other clubs and organisations. Don’t forget to log in with your Qld App and bring your masks - which can be removed when seated.

In memory of Christopher Ross-Smith OAM 1939 -2021
My sincerest condolences to Judi and the family on the recent passing of Chris. Unfortunately, the latest COVID 19 regulations has severely restricted total attendees at the funeral service held at Gregson and Weight at Caloundra on 16th August. Attendance will be by invitation only and arrangements have been made by Judi for Angela G and Sherryl G to attend on behalf of our Club. The ceremony will be live streamed through https://www.gregsonweight.com.au/live-streaming/client/?nid=7c599975-b3e9-4c0f-8355-b61bf5e43aa6 and this will be available for the next six weeks.

Judi and Chris’s daughters, Imogen and Sci thought that the Actors Benevolent Fund organisation would be closest to Chris’s heart if you wished to make a donation in his name, instead of flowers, and the link to it is as follows: Actors Benevolent Fund - Campaign - In Memory of Christopher A. Ross-Smith OAM 1939 - 2021.

Chris Brooker
It was fantastic to hear the good news that Chris B is back home recovering from a heart procedure and a very long conversation with his Cardiologist. We wish our Sergeant a very speedy recovery and should expect some very tall stories from up above when Chris has the all clear.

Thank you to Paulette for organising our recent Zoom meeting.

Pride of Workmanship Presentation of Awards Dinner on 21 August at Tranquil Park at 6pm.
This is one local event that is not cancelled (touch wood). We have 13 fantastic Nominees for this year’s awards and over 70 people booked in to attend. If you have not booked a seat, please contact Paulette as soon as possible. It is shaping up to be a memorable evening. We are continuing our local media exposure for our nominees with more articles and photographs to be published in the Glasshouse Country and Maleny News in the coming week leading up to the awards dinner.

Whilst the Maleny Neighbourhood Centre Housing & Homeless Roadshow on 12 August was cancelled last week, following some prior inquiries by Alan Wilson to the Surfers Sunrise Club, an opportunity has arisen for our Club to be involved in a project to further develop the Surfers Sunrise Sleeping Pod for low cost relocatable emergency housing shelter and security – and particularly for emergency housing for women and children who have incurred domestic violence. In conjunction with Ric T and Malcolm B from the Maleny Mens Shed, the sleeping pods need some further work to vary their design and construction to facilitate better ventilation for the users.

10 Sep Maleny Memorial Hospital Fundraiser
The Maleny Hospital Auxiliary are holding a fundraising event on 10th September in the Community Centre commencing at 10 am. Sherryl and Bernice have organised a table of 6 if a member would like to go to support the Auxiliary. There is a fashion parade on the day also. Refer to the MDSRC newsletter for further information. Please let Bernice know if you are interested. Only 1 spot left on the table of 6. Tickets are $30 each.

12 Sep The Mooloolaba Ironman
We have 4 Rotarians Craig S, Bernice and John McL and Greg W attending to volunteer at the equipment tent again.

17 Oct Kenny Cluster joint meeting for DG Wendy's official visit
This is the new date for the Kenny Cluster Meeting with DG Wendy at Australia Zoo. Your tickets from 1 August are still valid for this new date. Could members please confirm their booking for the revised date?

As a consequence of the Kenny Cluster joint meeting, the Kite Festival at MDSRC and Ziza Field will need to be postponed. I am in the process of resetting this date to a later Sunday in October or November. The event will be limited to 60 participating children. Due to the impacts of COVID 19, it is planned to keep the first workshop and kite flying event low key. SUN members are working on securing assistance from key teachers at the local schools and Rotary has been requested to do a BBQ.

Our Club Grants program is now open. Details for applicants will be published shortly.

Recent Shelter Box Display
Kieryn Deutrom,Volunteer Program Manager of ShelterBox Australia has thanked us for the recent Shelter Box display in Maple Street organised by Jeff C and a host of other members and friends. He has also invited the Clubto submit an article to feature in an upcoming Rotary Down Under magazine. Kieryn informed us that his CEO Mike was contacted by a journalist from Newcastle who was visiting Maleny at the time.  He contacted Mike and ended up interviewing him for a segment on Pacific Prepared on ABC Radio Australia!  This is the power of having displays - we never know what might come from them!

Planning Matters
Hoping you have all had an opportunity to check over our 2021-2022 ROTARY CLUB OF MALENY BOARD and CLUB COMMITTEES Chart. We are involved in many activities and projects throughout our community and beyond, and we will spend a few minutes at our next business/project meeting to confirm memberships of these.

A huge thankyou to Malcolm B and Lionel T for all their good work in recently installing the Eco Timber Bench at the Maleny Selectors Green.
