THE RANGE Vol 66 No 4
President Scott welcomed members and guests. Our guest speaker was again Tim Bagshaw from Persistent Pain Management. In addition, Scott welcomed Bernie Wilson, Rotary Student Exchange, and Su Carbery.
Su is our newest member and was introduced by Rick Vickers, supported by Fran Tickle and inducted by Scott. Scott presented Su with her tag and Rotary badge, and we all welcomed our new member by acclamation,
Sue said that she was raising money for the Leukemia Foundation through their latest fundraiser; “Shave for a Cure”. If she was able to meet her $1,000 target, she had agreed to have her head shaved. The professionally skilled Renee has volunteered to remove Su’s hair in support of the initiative. This was actually achieved by the end of the week:

Bernie Wilson was then welcomed to present the program of Rotary Youth Exchange in which she is a driving force. The presentation outlined the opportunities and benefits to both the exchanged and the hosts, as well as the goals and compliance required to make this a success. Some of our members have already participated and Bernie was able to share that, at last, the State Government has certified the program.
Rick Vickers and Rick Townsend then spoke of the eminent arrival of Sam Hughes, the Travelling Jackaroo. Sam is due to arrive on Sunday midday on his 1957 Chamberlain tractor raising funds for charity. This is Sam’s third year as the Travelling Jackaroo, and all are encouraged to attend at Maple Street, in Rotary uniform, for the procession and then to the Showground where Sam will be welcomed home.
Our keynote speaker, Tim Bagshaw, gave a terrific presentation on “Persistent Pain Management”. Tim is also working with Maleny Local Pain Collective made up of local professionals in health to raise awareness and support outcomes for persistent pain. In addition, Tim and colleagues, are taking an extended bicycle tour; “The Rural Outreach Tour” to support understanding and opportunities for people with persistent pain. One of the areas that Tim stressed was the understanding and complexity of pain signalling. That we all attribute pain in different ways and the management of that is proving very effective in reaching solutions. Loved the card trick!
Bruce Kelly, ADO, thanked Tim formally and presented him with a Rotary gift bag.
President Scott Wassman then gave a vote of thanks and closed the meeting.
