THE RANGE Vol 66 No 3
It has been a busy time over these last couple weeks. The Kenny Cluster Presidents had their first meeting together with the District 9620 Domestic Violence project being top of the agenda, looking at having more Club Members and businesses linked into the ‘Purple Shirt Friday’ concept. Our own ‘Speak Up Now’ programme and how it could add value to the Rotary project was highlighted to the other Presidents with several immediately going onto the SUN website.
Last weekend an
intrepid group of us travelled out to Yarraman for Christmas in July. I for one
was very impressed with the operators and facilities at the Yarraman Caravan
Park and couldn’t have asked for anything more. It was lovely to spend time
with everyone in a different setting away from the club. Apart from the trek to
Coomba Falls, a Coomba Lager or two at the Maidenwell Hotel, and some amazing
‘treasures’ from Treasures at Maidenwell, it was just a relaxing time with some
good conversations, food, laughs, and Trivia Questions which verged on the
contentious at times! Thanks go to Craig, Greg, Paulette, Bernice, and John for
all of their work planning the weekend, and on the day. Craig has already
confirmed our booking at the Caravan Park for next years’ Christmas in July on 12 July. I encourage everyone to have a
look at their calendar and think about coming out to Yarraman.
Next Wednesday we will be inducting Su Carberry into our Club. Su is very well known by us all. With her attitude and energy, she will be an excellent Rotarian. It will be my pleasure to welcome her into the Club and I hope as many of our club members as possible come along to congratulate Su.
MINUTES OF MEETING OF 17TH JULY
For reasons, not now spoken about in polite society in Queensland, this meeting was held in the Masonic Hall. President Scott welcomed members, partners, Guest Speaker Peter Morley from ShelterBox, PP Alan Wilson, together with his wife Mary, on a farewell visit from Bribie and Tim Bagshaw from Persistent Pain Management. Alan spoke to us of the important part that Rotary had played in his life in PNG and Vanuatu where he had been the President in a number of clubs and had made his family life there before returning to Queensland. He joined our Club and was President for two years.
Message from Chris B - “I remind members that 18 August is Vietnam Veterans Day. Last year I gave a visual pictorial display and I do not intend to repeat that this year - once is enough. The RSL will be holding a brief Service at the Cenotaph on Sunday 18 August at 1100h to which everyone is invited.
CHARLOTTE GOLDING - RIP
Charlotte will be much missed by those who knew her. She was a popular member of the Club for a number of years before retiring and taking up committee positions in Probus in Flaxton. I have scanned the photo archives without much success. Charlotte is fourth on the left of the attached.
For those current members who feel they look a bit spritely here, the bad news is that this image dates from February 2012.
