CHANGEOVER NIGHT OF 28TH JUNE
A pleasant and successful evening was held at the Old Bank Cafe. The outgoing President Ric Townsend welcomed past, present and honorary members together with their partners plus other guests including representatives from Lions and Apex.
After an excellent meal, ADG Helen Fox installed the aforesaid Ric Townsend as our President for the new Rotary year to general acclaim.
Ric then introduced the members of his new Board. Unfortunately our photographer was part of this new group and so unable to photograph them. MINUTES OF MEETING OF 21ST JUNE
President Ric opened the meeting with the usual formalities. He welcomed a new member Allan Wilson and his wife Mary. Also prospective new member Donna. Ric reported that the numbers for next week's Changeover Dinner were OK and he was waiting on replies from a couple of past-members and Friends of Rotary.
Lionel reported on the photo competition and progress with the calendar.
Jim reported on the Maleny Show and the expected profit of over $5000. He also attended a recent Interact meeting and was very impressed and enlightened by the enthusiasm and activity level within the Interact Club.
.
Rick Vickers briefed the meeting on developments at Mary Cairncross. The draft plans for the re-development there are impressive and include state of the art interactive displays.
Chris Brooker introduced new member Allan Wilson for the formal induction ceremony. Allan has a long history within Rotary, including memberships at the Clermont, Port Moresby, and Santo clubs.
He is a Paul Harris Fellow and has served in various committee positions including President. Allan was enthusiastically welcomed by the meeting. Mary was presented with flowers and thanked for her support of Allan and Rotary.
Jim Atkinson introduced the guest speaker Bill Richardson, an Ambassador with White Ribbon Australia - Australian men's campaign to stop violence against women. Bill is a long-term Maleny resident and in his working life he was Assistant-Secretary of the ACTU for many years before retiring to Maleny.
Attached is the text of Bill's speech with apologies for the quality of the scan.
The guest speaker answered questions and was formally thanked by the ADO to acclaim from the floor. The meeting was closed at 8:30 and some members rushed home to a bad dose of the 'blues'!

NOW FOR SOMETHING DIFFERENT
FROM OUR IT REPORTER WITH APOLOGIES TO DR SEUSS
If a packet hits a pocket on a socket or a port,
and the bus is interrupted at the very last resort
and the access of the memory makes your floppy disk abort,
then the socket packet pocket's got an error to report.
If your cursor finds a menu item followed by a dash
and the double clicking icon puts your window in the trash
and your data is corrupted 'cause the index doesn't hash,
Then your situation's hopeless and your system's gunna CRASH!!!
If the label on the cable on the table in your house
says the network is connected to the button on your mouse,
but your packets want to tunnel to another protocol
that's repeatedly rejected by the printer down the hall
and your screen is all distorted by the side effects of gauss
so your icons in your window are as wavy as a souse,
Then you may as well reboot and go out with a bang,
'cause sure as I'm a poet, the mother's gunna hang.
When the copy floppy's getting sloppy in the floppy disk slot
and the macro code is causing lots of unnecessary rot,
Then you'll have to flash your memory and you'll want to RAM your ROM
and then quickly turn the sucker off and be sure to tell your MUM............
and thank you muchly for all that, Billy Gates and company.
