PRESIDENT'S NOTES
Last Saturday night Michael and I attended the 60th Anniversary celebration of the Rotary Club of
Nambour. Chartered in 1949 by the RC of Gympie, the Club has a rich history of major projects, and a Rotary International President, Sir Clem Renouf to their name. It was a very enjoyable and sparkly night, with a suitably decorated cake to mark the occasion.Planning is underway for our 60th celebration on Wednesday 23 October at the RSL, so mark that date in your diaries.
After the last dinner meeting when we discussed the Computers4Learning call-out for computer mice. Ric and Chris got into action and by the end of the week 10 new Logitech corded computer mice were on their way to C4L. I had a very appreciative email from their manager on Tuesday to say that they had arrived and would be put to good use. Ric has got busy spreading the word around and has received a laptop for the program. More are needed. Thanks to Ric and Chris for their quick work on this.
With a grandchild staying over this week, I’ve been out and about showing her the wonders of Maleny. We visited the historical village where men from the Men’s Shed were busily working on one of the houses. It was so good to see the RC Maleny sign on the Men’s Shed as well as on the Village street sign.Then on to Mary Cairncross Scenic Reserve where the new Rotary seat at the front got the tick of approval. I know we are getting a
sign organised for the seats, but we must also persevere with getting a much bigger recognition of Rotary’s involvement in the park over the past 60 years.MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF 18TH SEPTEMBER
President Sheryl opened the meeting by welcoming the members present, sparing a thought for those adventurers in the Kimberley.
She announced that the Board had accepted the resignation of CL C because she was spending much of her time in New Zealand. Michael G would stand in as International Director and Angela G would monitor the Tanzanian project.
The Board was also investigating some acknowledgement for Florence Wood for her occasional generous cash donations.
After the meal and a ritual savaging from the Sergeant, the Business Session began.

21Nov High for Ebenezer at the Orangery.
2. Correspondence
ShelterBox report received. There is a team in the Bahamas following Hurricane Dorian.
A request received from Computers for Kids specifically for mice.
A thank you letter received for the donation to the Chaplaincy Dinner.
3. Sausage Sizzle
The question was raised of whether it was worthwhile to continue with this exercise in view of the low income raised in relation to hours worked. No vote was taken but the view was expressed that this should continue as a PR exercise.
4. Calendar Sales
Lionel T reported that these were underway but he would be grateful if members could recommend additional sales outlets.
Jeff C reported that he had managed to book the kiosk for these sales and the dates will be circulated.
5. 60th Anniversary Dinner
Chris B has arranged a committee for this. David Wilson will be the Guest Speaker and our Club Historian Jack Wilcox will be a special guest.
The meeting closed at 8:30pm.

SOME LINGUISTIC DEXTERITY
APROSDOKIANS are figures of speech in which the latter part of a sentence is unexpected; Winston Churchill loved them:
1. Where there's a will, I want to be in it.
2. Since light travels faster than sound, some people appear bright until you hear them speak.
3. If I agreed with you, we'd both be wrong.
4. War does not determine who is right - only who is left.
