PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
There are numerous people on our committee working on various new projects. Our international committee with Greg and Bruce are establishing contacts directly with overseas Rotary Clubs in Tanzania where Cougar is and also in Ukraine, as they continue the war with Russia into its 3rd year. The idea is to be able to work directly with one another rather than going through an intermediary.
Our membership committee, led by Scott and with the assistance of Rick, Greg and Craig, has developed a new DL flyer that will stand out and can be handed out to people at our various events. They are also looking at other ways to encourage people to join our club.
Craig is organising another Christmas in July weekend at Yarraman after our successful inaugural one last year. He will email booking information and planned activities for this year soon. Keep Saturday 27 July free on your calendar!
Scott is busily working with the incoming committee on his upcoming role as President for the 2024/25 year, starting with the location of our changeover dinner on 26 June. So look out for some news on that very soon. Another date to add to your calendar of activities!
On 3 April our guest speaker will be PP Patrice Robinson who lives in Woombye. She is the Director of Australian Rotary Health and will give us an update about what is happening with ARH.
On 17 April our business dinner meeting will discuss two of our major functions of the year - our parking duties for the upcoming Woodie’s Expo on the first weekend of 4/5/6 May and the food stall at the Maleny Show on 31May and 1June.

MINUTES OF MEETING OF 20 MARCH
President Paulette opened the meeting by welcoming guests Bob and Sue Hall, Mike Edwards and special guest Angela Griffin. Angela has had a very distinguished career and has used her talents to great effect during her 32 years of Rotary membership, culminating in 16 years as a member of our Club. She joined Rotary in 1992 in Wellington, New Zealand and moved to Washington DC in 1998 where, despite her heavy work schedule involving a lot of overseas travel, she instituted monthly social events including a Xmas dinner at George Washington’s former home in Mount Vernon. She also started an annual Ambassadors Dinner with the first at the New Zealand Embassy hosted by Ambassador Jim Bolger, a former NZ Prime Minister.
In 2002 she left Washington for Pretoria, South Africa where she joined the Rotary Club of Hatfield and was Club President. In 2005 her job took her to Port Moresby, PNG where she joined the Rotary Club of Port Moresby and was again Club President. In 2008 her work contract ended and she moved to Maleny where she lost no time in joining our Club.
During her 16 years with us Angela has been a very active member, being on the Board for many years and starting many valuable community projects like the MESF program and Community Grants. She has also been very active in international projects like Ebeneezer and as a GSE Team Leader. In Maleny there was a committee raising funds for the Ebeneezer School and orphanage in Zambia and our International Director at the time Bob Hall persuaded the Board to help by registering the project with RAWCS so that donations could be tax deductible. Bob took the floor and described how the rules required a Project Director and Angela quickly put her hand up for the role which lasted for several years including site visits by another Club member and culminating in the building of a High School with 500 children and the Zambian Government on board.
President Paulette then presented Angela with a Rotary Community Service Award accompanied by considerable applause.

After a lively session from our Sergeant President Paulette noted that it is now urgent that our storage container be emptied' so that the shelving can be purchased and fitted before the grant expires in June; it was decided that Saturday 13 April would be a good day. John M commented that the container needed levelling.
Chris B reiterated his request for many volunteers for the Wood Expo parking and mentioned that helpers would be welcome to assist in cleaning up the RSL at 1500h on Anzac Day.
Fran T reported that the Solar Buddy workshop at Conondale SS was a great success despite a hiccup at the start when it was found that no instructions were included in the delivery. Fortunately, YouTube came to the rescue.
Neil A gave an update on the progress of the two grants to support platypus research and monitoring of the Obi Obi from the Showground to Gardeners Falls. Support has also been received from Wildlife Queensland. Noted that many Clubs, as part of their environment focus, have ‘Adopted a River’ so he suggested that we might adopt the Obi Obi.
Lionel T announced that sales of the 2024 calendar are slightly higher than last year, an advert for 2025 has been placed in the Hinterland Times and photo entry forms are available.
Rick V reported on another successful year of Community Grants and thanked Angela once again for her initiative in suggesting the project.
After our Sergeant had done his worst, our guests were allowed to leave and we convened the Special General Meeting to discuss the proposed new Constitution and Bylaws under Rick V's guidance. The document has since been been recorded and circulated by the Secretary. The President thanked Ric for
the effective and hard work that had gone into his proposals.
The meeting closed at 8:45pm.
